More Interesting Hair Style History

It appears that in many cultures around the planet long hair was the most common hairstyle for women up until the 20th century. Virtually any woman with long hair will tell you, that it enevitably  gets in the way. Early records reveal representations of women and their favourite hair style updos, from time to time very opulent elaborate ones. In a number of cultures, women's hair was often kept pinned up and covered after marriage, only worn loosely in private or by youthful adolesant unmarried girls. As a consequence with these sorts of social norms, it is not a surprise that women's hairstyles through out the ages have incorporated many varied updos, often with extra hairpieces, ribbons and decorative additions in the form of jewelled hair combs and clips.

In days gone by women's long hair and hairstyles had more cultural impact or importance than most people were aware of. Depending upon the culture, even the technique of braiding or plaiting, the intricacey, and complexity of the updo and the hair coverings worn could all provide important information with reference to the woman's lifestyle, marital status and social status. In America, this altered significantly in the 1920s when women cut off their long hair, opting instead for less effort, by wearing the low-maintenance bob. Today, a carefully prepared updo may signify a formal occasion, but it does not have much social relevance.

In its most basic form, an updo serves to keep long hair out of the way. Often when in a hurry, women with long hair may simply tie it in a knot, or grab a pen or pencil to quickly secure a chignon bun, plait it quickly or fashion a messy ponytail. These are all, even though simple and rushed, effortless updos. Functional updos still commonly used these days include braids and French braids, French rolls or buns and a variety of ponytails. They will usually hold without significant pinning or fussy hair products. The Curl Up Hair Style  Hair Tie Hair Accessory is fabulous for long hair. You can easily make a bun, pony tail, french roll and many other hair styles suprisingly quick and easily. You also have the added bonus of comfort, (no headaches) plus curls when you take it out and it stays in your hair firmly and neatly. Check out all the different hair styles. You can even get creative and make up your own original hairstyle.

A formal classic updo may include curls, twists or elaborate plaiting and weaving, as well as hair jewellery and ribbons. While some women can manage their own updos, these are more often than not seen at weddings, proms and on the red carpet. Quiet often a formal updo is the work of a trained hairdresser. Many of the styles we associate with the past are, by today's standards, these sorts of fussy updos. However, it is important to remember that a wealthy woman in the Victorian era would have had help at home with her hair.

If you are planning an updo, whether a quick one done at home for a day on the town or a formal one for an extra special party or a wedding, remember to take into account your hair type, length and also your face shape. Hair styles with more height on the top are ideal for rounder faces, whereas if your face is longer, you might want to consider a shape with more width than height. Uncomplicated updos can be a fantastic everyday hairstyle if you take the time to learn how to do them. Pick up a comb and brush, and spend some time experimenting, learn what works best with your hair.

Remember also that you can achieve a number of really cool updo hairstyles with a Curl Up Hair Style Hair Tie.  You can create updo's, high, middle or low buns, French rolls, and a number of other great looking hairstyles.
